Good morning all! Today we're going to talk about 5G, this new wireless network

telecommunications, but also we're going to debunk the myth that the

new 5G network could spread the COVID-19 virus.

Can 5G spread COVID-19? This is what many groups think

worldwide. Even that many telecommunications towers were

burned down to protest installation of the new 5G network

So, we are going to discuss the 5G network purely theoretical and

at a technical level before talking about the 5G network and it's

impacts on health. Let's start by defining what is the

5G network. The new 5G network is a new network, so 5th generation

of the wireless telecommunications network for data and voice. And this

new network will be implemented in coming years.

You should know that if it is the 5th network so, that means

necessarily that there have been four previous versions therefore: 1G, 2G, 3G

and 4G. This new version comes after

4G network which is currently in place pretty much everywhere in the world.

Necessarily it's not just uniquely technical aspects which

have been spawned in the past with old versions of networks.

It is also a major impact on economy and society. So let's start

in the 80s with the first telecommunication network version

where the first generation be the 1G which we

used to transfer the voice of a device to another analogically.

Then in the 90s came the second generation with the transfer of

voice only again, but, it was a voice that was

digitized using protocols such as CDMA type.

So in the early 2000s, around ten years later, the

third generation of the network of wireless telecommunications.

This third generation had an impact major throughout society

because now we had added data to be able to transmit between

different devices. We could transmit the voice, but

also data, which blew up the smart phone market in

early 2000s. In fact, many sectors have grown to provide

products that would be connected on the cellular network to be able to receive

data and transmit it in a way wireless. In the early 2010s

came 4G followed very closely by 4G LTE, an advanced version of the

fourth generation, which allowed us to have much faster speeds

that its predecessor, the 3G version, with very low latency rates and

a capacity of devices on the network much larger. Now in 2020,

we talk about the 5G network like the network the most efficient that has ever existed

for telecommunications networks wireless.

We are talking about speeds that are six to twenty times higher than his

predecessor and latency three times lower. What

also differentiates the 5G network, it's the frequency band used because

you should know that the four previous versions of the network

were using bands of frequencies below 3 GHz. That

implemented in three stages to offer a very good performance and a very

good range too. If for example we are near the

communication tower, we're going to have a very high transmission frequency for

promote high data throughput. On the other hand, if we are very far from the

wave emission tower, we're going to have a much lower frequency

since the wave propagation travels much better at very low frequency.

And, on the other hand, we still have a very good speed because 5G will use

new encoding system and decoding which will increase the

network performance. When we talk about 5G we think

often at performances, to the technological infrastructure that

has been imposed, however we forget often designing technology

and this technology, as it is new, since we see frequencies

higher than previous frequencies that we had on 4G networks and

lower, so the new 5G network as i told you, will use the

millimeter bands, so it's strips with the wave length

which is lower than 1 mm, it's very very very small and

it creates major challenges for the design. Necessarily it's all

problems are still unknown and that will have to solve for the future this is

which also makes the new network 5G wants to be more efficient, but also

which is going to have a major impact on the technology in general. So as

comparison the 2G network offered speeds of 0.3 megabits per second.

The 3G network subsequently arrived with speeds of 7.2 megabits per

second. Then the 4G network arrived with 150

megabits per second as maximum speed and the 5G network is

really better and more optimistic with speeds that can

go from 1 to 10 gigabits per second. So these are speeds that are

maximum, however for the 5G network we aim for average speeds of 50

megabits per second which is huge whereas even Wi-Fi networks

with 50 megabits per second, it's very high. For those who have a little

knowledge in radio systems frequency

we know very well that the more we increase in frequency, the wavelength is going to be

reduced and in terms of the antenna the shorter the wavelength,

the antenna will also be smaller. So, the more you increase a system in frequency,

the smaller the wavelength and the smaller the wavelength, given

that it is proportional to the length of the antenna, the smaller it is. So it's a

winning advantage. However, given that we increase in frequency, we know that

the range and will be reduced considerably. And it's an issue that

5G has to face since we know very well that in the frequencies in

gigahertz, with the millimeter waves, range is going to be very

very small, about 500 m for a very high speed system.

We necessarily know we don't want to have telecommunications towers

everywhere in the residential sectors, it is for this reason that

5G antennas are going to have a more extended network of small transmission terminals

which will be in the form of MIMO : "Multiple Input - Multiple Output"

that will use this technology network to increase coverage of

5G wireless network and to be able reach multiple people.

Necessarily there will be more terminals than the earlier networks which

just had big telecommunications towers, however this network

is going to be really more extensive in small station and they will have

the ability to manage data input and data output. Despite that the

5G development targets a few sectors in particular whose virtual reality,

augmented reality, video games, autonomous cars, connected objects or

even precision farming, several sectors that are still

unknown will be able to see the development with the new arrival of

5G network, so several sectors are going to offer products that are

connected like the network for example manufacturer will be able to obtain

very precise data on its production in real time with connected objects.

So now that all of that has been said, you you might like to be part of

new 5G network, well unfortunately we will have to wait

still a few months, a few years especially if you live in the region or

in the suburbs because the 5G network will be implemented

first in big cities, since the range is limited

but necessarily it will also come later to spread in

coming years. You should know that the 4G network is

not even implemented anywhere in the world.

So before certain regions can access the new 5G network,

it's going to take a few more years. Some cities in the world already have

access to the new 5G network to make tests, development, create

new products and validate the network operation.

When the development of 5G is going to be done in major

urban centers, we will see the network expand and offer

greater coverage. 5G is very good technologically, it has

performs very well, but how the world economy is going to benefit

from it? In fact, it is estimated that there will have more than 22 million jobs

created for the coming years related to the new 5G network and that there will

have more than 13 trillion of dollars in economic benefits.

Economic benefits necessarily relate to the

telecommunications, but also all sectors that will be able to have

objects connected to 5G networks. We talk about connected objects in the field

manufacturer, in the field of health, in agriculture, so

all the areas that are going to want to have objects connected in real time will

want to have access to the network and that accounts for economic benefits

worldwide. So the numbers I gave it is estimated by 2035 and these

numbers are pessimistic estimates. It is estimated that the network

5G will be able to have a major impact on society and be able to have impacts

much larger than those estimated. So now that it’s all said,

1G, 2G, 3G and 4G.

Government standards in each country are very very very strict on

the emission of electromagnetic waves and even the companies that produce

adapted circuits on their 5G networks, for example, 4G, they will transmit

at much lower powers than those recommended by the authorities

of health. You should not worry about the

new 5G network that will happen in the next few years.

So there is a false correlation like I tell you that was established

by some groups around the world linking COVID-19 and 5G.

However, no link has been made between both. You have to be optimistic,

I believe, on a new 5G network which is going to be implemented in the

next years so it will touch several sectors. Sectors that

have never been touched by the technology as much as in the years to

come and even it's going to develop new jobs and quite significant

Everyone,hello everyone this is Anna done of,Ahmed dong comm today I'll have another,episode of Internet tips and tricks,video and I'll talk about my recent,experience switching from high speed,internet to crazy high-speed Internet,and whether it is really necessary to,switch from high-speed Internet beyond,[5g home internet],50 or 100 Mbps and whether if it's a,waste of money or you really need to,change or switch to that type of,high-speed I've been with Bill Canada,for a few years and my internet speed,was 50 Mbps and to tell you the truth at,50 Mbps I never see any or I never sunny,you no need to change it to a higher,speed because everything was just fine,and smooth surfing the internet or,watching videos uploading to YouTube,uploading to backup my fast and,everything everything went totally,smooth and ok and for a regular point of,view I don't see any necessary to you,know switch to anything above 50 or 100,Mbps the reason I switch to 600 Mbps,because there's a small company called,fibre stream and the only service you,know condos they're not a big company,like Bill Rogers or tell us they only,[5g home internet],provide Internet to selected condos in,selected cities in Canada and they just,finished fiber installation in our,building and they're offering a very,good deal and for me it actually didn't,make sense not to switch so what I was,paying before with Bill if I add just 5,more dollars then I would get 10 times,more speed or even more with just a,little bit more money so I thought I,wanted,how you know it feels like to have 600,Mbps internet now since the switch you,know have been suffering everything,surfing the internet or you know,watching video and the streaming movies,and everything and I don't see any much,any difference between a 50 Mbps to 600,Mbps I'm going to show you some you know,speed test you're not gonna see a 600,Mbps because due to various factors like,you know Wi-Fi or that type of device,I'm using it's not able to you know show,more than 400 sometimes I'm getting of,up to 450 speed on the speed test but,when the technician was here then he,showed me on his device that you know it,was a 600 Mbps speed but on my phone or,my computer it never shows more than 400,450 maximum 500 speed so there are,limitations but still you know it's a,very good speed so I could be you know,[5g home internet],having a 600 speed but maybe just the,testing browser or my device connected,via Wi-Fi is not able to pull up more,than 400 or 500 on the screen so that's,what are you gonna see but to tell you,the truth I don't see any difference,between surfing the you know internet or,watching movie or you know listening to,music just like you know doing regular,activities or daily work I don't see any,point to switch it to a higher internet,if you have 50 Mbps that's good enough,that's a very good experiment but I do,see a significant difference only two,times one of them is when I'm uploading,to YouTube and the other time is when,I'm uploading to back up my files on the,clouds so these are the two instances,where they're like you know day and,night difference for example before a,standard 10 minute video I would say,like you know 10 15 gig it would take me,to one hour sometimes two hours to,upload to YouTube and now I can do that,[5g home internet],even a few minutes like you know four,minutes five minutes it's really fast,and when I'm backing up my file,than before I just like you know start,backing up and I'll leave it there for,long hours but now I just you know,started backing up and it's done it's,really fast so that's where I can see,the difference but even if I didn't have,you know 600 Mbps I would still be ok,with 50 Mbps backing up or uploading to,YouTube that's what I've been doing for,many years so from a regular point of,view I don't think it's necessary to you,know spend more money or a lot more,money to have that type of speed beyond,let's say 50 Mbps or 100 Mbps if you,have a fifty or hundred I think that's,good enough for regular activities and,even you know if I don't have the good,rate then I don't mind cutting back to,50 Mbps because that wouldn't make that,much difference,so before I thought you know it would be,totally something else having that type,of high speed but now I realized that,it's not really what it you know sounded,like so it's just you know makes a,difference when I'm uploading something,or when I'm backing up my files on the,cloud so my suggestion would be that you,know if you'd like to save money then if,you find a very good deal with 50,[5g home internet],hundred yet just you know you can stick,to it there's no need to switch to like,you know 500 600 or 1000 because I,believe it's unnecessary so I'm going to,keep this fiber stream Internet as long,as I have that deal but you know if they,increase the price or cut the deal then,definitely I'm going to be switching to,lower speed or I'll look for someone is,who can give me a better deal with even,if it's a lower speed that's fine the,main thing is you know you don't want to,pay too much money unless a for internet,which you do Everyone,hi everybody and welcome back,on today's episode we're gonna answer an,important question,how many switches can you have in your,network,you're gonna find out next on the,ultimate tech hub,[Music],so how many switches can you have in a,single home network,and do multiple switches slow down your,network,well i'll answer both questions in a,minute but a more important question is,how many switches should you have in a,single home network,well this answer will vary depending on,the size of your house,and the size of your home network so for,example,if you have a three bedroom house and a,family room and a living room,and most new home builders will install,[5g home internet speed],one ethernet cable per room,this would give you a total of five,ethernet cables,however if you install these cables,yourself install two cables per room,and when i say ethernet cables i mean,cat 5e or cat6,cat 5v and cat6 are the most popular in,the industry however cat6,has become the standard over the last,few years so now we have five ethernet,cables,going to five different rooms and these,five ethernet cables should originate,from a network panel and in case you,missed it i do have a video called,where's the ethernet cable go,and there'll be a link right here to,that video so first in this network,panel,you should have an 8 port switch or a 10,port switch,since most routers only have 4 lan ports,you will definitely need a switch,since you have five ethernet cables that,you need to connect so now you have five,rooms connected with ethernet cables,to optimize this ethernet cable,connection you should connect a five,port switch,to each room by doing so this will give,you four more ports per room,and these four extra ports will allow,four more devices,like tvs streaming devices gaming,consoles,another pc and this list can go on and,on,so you can see why it's important to,have extra ports in each room,so back to the original question how,many switches can you have in a single,network,well there's no limit to how many,[5g home internet speed],switches you could have in a single,network,however the best practice would be to,have one switch,per ethernet cable and no more than that,so at the end of each ethernet cable you,can connect a switch,and there's no real reason to have two,switches for ethernet cable,you could tether two together with a,crossover cable but they do sell five,port 8 port,and even 10 port switches and then a,single home network,an 8 port switch or even a 10 port,switch should be plenty of ports,and we use tp-link and netgear for our,switches,and both are very reliable and,connecting a switch to an ethernet port,is very easy simply plug the switch into,an outlet,for power and plug your ethernet cable,into the switch now if you have a five,port switch,you have an ethernet cable going into,[5g home internet speed],one port and now you have four more,ports available for devices,and if you need more than four ports,then buy an eight port switch,or even a ten port switch so back to our,original questions,how many switches should you have in,your network and my best answer is,one switch per room per ethernet cable,and our second question do multiple,switches slow down your network,well technically yes however your switch,most likely has a higher bandwidth than,your internet connection,so you'll most likely see no difference,in uploads or download speeds,for example i have a fiber connection,with one gig speeds,and i have multiple switches throughout,my house,basically one switch per room and i've,had no issue with bandwidth,uploads or download speeds so guys,remember,there's basically no limit to how many,switches you can have,in your single home network but the rule,of thumb should be one switch per room,per ethernet cable and there's no need,to worry about these switches,[5g home internet speed],slowing down your bandwidth well guys,we're all done here and i want to,encourage you to visit our patreon page,where two dollars a month can help keep,this channel going and for every new,member,we'll do a personal shout out on the,very next video,and guys remember if you like these,videos give a thumbs up and share it,if you love them hit subscribe to keep,this channel alive,thanks again for watching,you,[5g home internet speed]

hi there welcome back to my youtube,channel this is daniel rosel here i want,to do a video today i'm running through,my whole uh series of videos about,backup internet connectivity i'm going,to call this one how to get really,reliable home internet the reason i'm,doing that is i'm trying to target uh,people or help people with this,information who may not even have heard,of back over internet or failover,internet they might not be familiar with,those keywords and but that is what i'm,going to be talking about uh in today's,video now i did a whole series of videos,about this in the summer and,surprisingly those got a relatively,decent amount of views and comments and,emails and alongside that i've just been,seeing a lot of talk on um,social media mostly on facebook groups,people frustrated with their home,internet and you know how can i do,better with my home internet which makes,sense because um i guess the work from,home workforce has just mushroomed uh,since the pandemic it used to be,something that the few people with,remote jobs and maybe freelancers were,working from home i've been doing this,uh this lifestyle for,four years now thereabouts and now it's,[5g home internet speed],like everybody now it's like who's not,working from home it's probably the,people with hybrid jobs in their,in-office day are and not at home and,the rest of us are so dramatic dramatic,shift and that definitely poses a,challenge on the internet infrastructure,because no one really envisioned this uh,including in places like where i live,paradoxically in israel the high tech,capital of the middle east the internet,infrastructure is still kind of somewhat,old school uh in jerusalem relatively,central the best internet connection i,can get,at the moment for my money is vdsl with,the like three megabit per second upload,speed so fiber isn't even uh widely,available yet even though they're,supposedly working on that quickly so,when you're dealing with internet being,delivered over the last mile by these,technologies,and that's an important thing to know,about the internet that these kind of,technologies dsl coaxial they're really,last mile technologies the backbone of,the internet,runs on fiber and it runs even through,national switches all the way it's going,being carried on fiber until it gets,really close to uh to the actual,subscriber,slightly different in uh in commercial,[5g home internet speed],internet connectivity but for the kind,of residential internet that you or i,might have and we're struggling with,often times a reason as well there is,more demand on the network and in many,cases we're dealing with also,infrastructure that is just not that,great and,that combination can pose a lot of,problems in terms of,throttling and slow speeds etc so,alongside all these chats about internet,connectivity i've been seeing some what,i would consider to be pretty lousy,advice being battered about on facebook,you know people say oh,my my internet goes down for 30 minutes,a day what should i do and people say oh,you know just uh just get rid of the,internet just uh use it use a use a,hotspot for your phone and,internet connectivity cellular internet,connectivity does have a role in home,connectivity or can have a role and,actually in the setup i'm going to talk,about here,it leverages the power of or the power,the existence of cellular connectivity,um if you live somewhere out in the,sticks like you know somewhere really,far out in the australian outback,it might be your only option or,satellite might be your only option but,if you live in an urban centre there's a,general you know as a general rule,in technology it's better to get stuff,over a wire than it is through the air,so that applies to ethernet versus wi-fi,it applies it applies even in the world,of microphones wired microphones versus,wireless microphones if you want,reliability uh it's generally best to,opt for a wired connectivity source so,my the connection i've designed or the,network architecture i've designed,leverages both a wired internet which is,dsl and it requires and it leverages,[5g home internet speed],cellular but only as a backup and i'm,going to talk in this video about how,anyone can set that up for themselves at,generally pretty low cost and i'm going,to be just overlaying some,uh diagrams throughout this video so you,won't have to watch me talking here in,my home office for 40 minutes but i'm,gonna try go through everything in this,video that somebody interested in,setting this up in their house might,want to know um so basically what we're,going to be doing or talking about is,something called internet failover and,what that means is that,we're going to have one internet,connection,a primary and if that goes down or is,interrupted it's going to fail over,hence the name failover to a secondary,internet connection it is not the same,thing as connection bonding and this is,a common uh source of confusion even,among the home networking world and,youtube for that matter where people,will think they're doing connection,bonding but they're not actually bonding,connections,connection bonding is more advanced you,could say perhaps uh it involves the,similarity is that you're going to be,using multiple connections but it,requires some infrastructure in the,cloud outside of your home network in,order to bind together the packets as,they go out to the internet and then,split them off to the different uh wide,area networks to the different internet,sources so there is a software called,speedify and i've reviewed speedify on,this channel,and that that's that's that's good it's,basically it kind of looks like a vpn,from the outside but what it actually is,[5g home internet speed],doing is the speedify provides the,infrastructure uh to do that combination,of packets so in other words let's just,take this down a technical level when,you're going to have internet coming in,from different sources,and that's going to be speedify will,pull them together and give you one,internet connection now this might sound,very esoteric,but connection bonding is actually very,very useful it's used widely for years,in broadcasting so if you're doing a,video link up with a correspondent in,kabul or something,you don't want to rely on one shaky cell,phone signal so,there's been a market for this stuff for,years these little hardware devices that,will literally tether together,three or four mobile networks or one,satellite plus two mobile networks and,they'll give you one really robust,connection there's two separate benefits,to um to connection bonding that are,actually different,one is,speed connection bonding will give you,uh will generally aggregate is or is,capable theoretically of aggregating,connectivity so if you have a 10 megabit,per second line and a 10 mega per second,line it can give you 20.,um but there's actually another main,quite a significant benefit and that's,that it's failover is typically instant,which means that if you're dealing with,a hardware device which is what we'll be,talking about today for putting together,different internet connection sources,that process of failover itself of okay,the hardware has to have some means of,checking each connection,so that when one line goes down it says,hey this line is down,let's go to line two that sometimes,isn't instant instantaneous and even if,it is instantaneous on the application,layer on the uh,on the network layer sorry on the,application layer it uh sometimes is not,so that what that means,again in simple language is that you,might be browsing google chrome watching,a video,[5g home internet speed],and uh your failover device might swap,the connection but that might take 10,seconds before the video starts playing,again whereas with connection bonding,theoretically it's instant and if you've,used speedify you can get that so,speedify is a decent option,and the reason i'm i use this setup,personally is that,it's kind of once you have it deployed,you own your own hardware uh you have to,pay for an additional internet,connection which is a cellular,connection but once you've got all that,stuff set up you're kind of good with,speedify it is a proprietary,um technology by a third party,technically i'm sure they will say their,privacy policy is locked in but you know,they are you are passing all your,[5g home internet speed],dns queries and internet data through,that through their system and from a,privacy standpoint that would kind of,make me uncomfortable take away the cost,perspective so what i've done is um set,up a load balancing router on my network,now it doesn't have to be a load,balancing router but that's the first,thing you're going to need to set this,up so,just to step back again for a second,what this system i'm going to describe,is doing is called failover it's not the,same as,as as connection bonding because we're,not actually bonding the connections in,the cloud we're just gonna have,a few redundant connections or actually,if you're just using two you've got one,redundant connection,bring that into your home or business,and that means that when connection one,fails you can go over to,connection two so what you need to make,this work failover but we're not,combining the connections that's,important um you can do load balancing,with these connections and that means,that you know you can say hey i want all,my skype,traffic to go through this wide area,network through this internet connection,source i want all my internet traffic to,go through this one but again it does,not equate to connection bonding for,reasons that i hope are now a bit a bit,more clear um okay so failover and how i,do failover on my network so the first,thing that,you need is a,internet router and a router is actually,a router and modem these days almost,always,um,that has multiple one ports now when you,look at the back of your average,internet rider you're going to see,[5g home internet speed],usually they're color coded,or and if they're not color coded,they'll have labels lan local area,network these are where you plug in,ethernet cables for your local devices,and you're going to have typically one,port that says one wide area network and,that basically is if you have an,upstream source of internet you're going,to put the writer into that and then,you're going to,connect your downstream appliances there,now that's not going to work for,a failover setup because you're we're,going to need to put multiple,ones on the network so i'll tell my,network diagrams in a second what i have,done is i have my isp router,my isp supplied rider which i keep on my,network because if they want to support,um issues on their network they are able,to remotely log in and check out my,settings,but you technically that that steps,optional you could actually skip your,isp router and you just would need to,find a multi-one router that had a modem,that was compatible with your isp and to,put in the settings for the sake of,simplicity i decided not to do that and,i keep the,isp writer on my network the next thing,that,i did was i added a 4g cellular,router to my network now here's,here's the thing here's why i've sort of,given the theory if you will of failover,internet and that's that that second,connection doesn't have to be cellular,that could be satellite that could be it,could be another,dsl connection or you could go dsl and,coaxial essentially what we're trying to,do here is,um,orchestrate a situation in which you,never don't have a viable internet,connection so,the best way to think about it is,what combination of connections even if,that's just two,is going to make it as,least likely as possible that there both,connections will ever not be available,so,[5g home internet speed],i kind of actually like mobile and um,i like moba mobile and wired because of,the fact that they're being delivered,through different infrastructure one is,coming from a,being delivered over the air via a,broadcasting station the other one's,coming in through the ground um and the,reason that is if i don't know if some,digger cut through the ground and,digged up a bunch of internet cables,they might guess,both coax and dsl might be down so,that's the reason i've done it like this,i would use satellite for the same,reason but it's just a lot more,expensive,um and you know if you can get a 5g,rider in your area or a 5g modem,affordably instead of 4g then by all,means do that the only reason i use 4g,it was just a ton cheaper to get it it,was a difference between like 100 and,500 for the heart for the writer,and the actual subscription would have,been pretty similar so i went for 4g,because the connection is barely in use,uh and i do pay a monthly subscription,for a 4g data sim card just for having,backup connectivity so the next thing,you're going to need after you've got,your two routers is a multi-one router,now,here's where the terminology gets a bit,confusing a load balancing router is um,basically any router so you're going to,be using your routers including your isp,router and your 4g router as bridges,you're going to be using them just as,modems and the actual router for the,[5g home internet speed],network will be the next device you're,putting on there so,you you do have to know if you can get a,4g modem versus a 4g router that's,better um if you can get a,uh you know vdsl modem it's just that,it's harder to find modems than it is,writer modems these days so it's,actually often easier just to buy a,router and work it as a modem and that's,another,that's something that you'll have to,figure out so after you've done that so,you get your two modems then the next,thing is going to be your actual router,now what this can be,basically any any router that has,multiple wan ports you have a few,options here one you have a multi-one,router and they do make these for like,gamers they're,basically consumer writers that,broadcast wi-fi,um but they're gonna have multiple ones,and they're gonna have a load balancing,feature that's one product category next,product category is going to be load,balancing routers and these are kind of,business hardware,uh where you know businesses will use,these actually in the cloud,for balancing incoming connections to a,data center but you can use them on your,home network too and the final category,is what's called a wired writer or a vpn,writer and these are the same things,they'll just be writers that can work as,writers in your home network but the,difference between them and your average,writer is that they've multiple,wide area network ports,so,get yourself one of those um i bought,mine for about 100 bucks it's a tp-link,uh load balancing router and do i,recommend tp-link actually i do not um i,have found this device finicky it seems,to be working okay now um the other,[5g home internet speed],options in the space cisco make ones,ubiquity make one uh,me cree talk i know i'm pronouncing that,wrong they do one as well so you've got,a few manufacturers,and i think mickey mickey truck i think,it's called um i think they're,the more kind of customizable one and a,lot of people really like ubiquity i've,had tp trouble with tp-link supports and,i haven't found them that good so i can,really recommend tp-link hardware,personally although it's what i have now,it was what was easy for me to get and,it does work but i wouldn't be buying it,again,so then what you need to do is basically,connect your multiple internet modem,routers into the next piece of gear,which is going to be your,whatever whatever you've bought for this,aspect so that can mean whether it's,your your load balancer or it's a wired,router or it's a vpn router or whatever,it's called it doesn't really matter,you'll find these in it networking,you'll find these you might find a load,balancing writer in your local computer,store if you do not go to an enterprise,i.t supplier and explain what you're,trying to do and they will have them,there's another company called draytek i,should have mentioned and draytek do,interesting products because they,actually typically when you get into,this world of multi-one routers,there's a few more manufacturers i'm,forgetting about but when you get into,[5g home internet speed],this world of or this product category,people the manufacturers don't put wi-fi,into the routers the reason for that is,these are typically used in businesses,uh and businesses it's more typical to,separate out the component so you're,gonna have your,modem then you're gonna have your router,then you might have your access points,or access points downstream broadcasting,wi-fi so in a business environment it's,more typical so that's the only reason,for that but it's just important to know,what you're buying if you if you want to,minimize your hardware and i actually,recommend,doing the opposite i actually think the,approach of separating out the,components,like business networking do is actually,a lot more smart the reason for that is,it's more modular so if you,if 5g routers come down in price and you,decide hey let's upgrade to 5g for the,cellular so you just buy it by yourself,a 5g rider and you take the 4g one off,the network if you have something like a,draytek that has built-in 4g,and this built-in modem and that,built-in modem and built-in wi-fi then,you're stuck with whatever is in that,product so although it was initially,tempting to me to buy something like,draytek the more i thought about it,i realized it's actually better to,separate out the components,that's my opinion anyway so get yourself,your load balancer so let's just roll,back to where we go where we are so far,we have our um,we have our isp router we have our,[5g home internet speed],cellular router we have our load,balancer,and now you just need to set this up so,because we're not talking about a,specific product it's going to be,different for each product but basically,they make it fairly easy i've done,videos on how to set up,load balancing on the,on the tp-link er 605 it's not super,difficult you basically get your one one,and one two connections running and,you've that sometimes is the tricky part,to make sure you've got the routers,actually set up as modems and,you know there there's no ip,conflicts,um once you're there it's typically,quite easy you just create a backup rule,and my backup rule just says look if the,primary is not available go to the,secondary,now what i do is i periodically do spot,checks,once every few months i go into the,transmission log,and i see,how much the load balancer is pulling,from each wide area network and what i'm,looking for is a little bit from the,backup if there's no,pull from the backup whatsoever i would,suspect,that it's not working there's a problem,what i see typically is one percent or,two percent usage from the backup,internet connection and that tells me,that everything is good,so,now we can connect everything to the,load balancer and that means,wired internet computers that means,ethernet switches,basically you build your network from,whatever hardware device we put in,that's going to be doing the load,balancing that's the starting point,everything upstream is just modems and,combining connections,so if you're going to invest anywhere,probably invest in this piece get,yourself like a big big wired broadband,rider with lots and lots of switches uh,etc that would be my advice um and what,i have in my network is i actually have,oh it's gets complicated i have a wi-fi,router on the end firstly i have a,couple of ethernet switches,they're running into my computer my nis,my,whatever else is wired on my network,then i have a wi-fi,router to broadcast wi-fi but that's,only actually running as and that's,running in access point mode so you're,[5g home internet speed],going to need a router that either you,can configure as an access point or that,has an access point mode tp-links writer,which is what i'm using actually has,access point functionality,um so that's bringing out a wi-fi,network and connecting everything,wireless so your wireless printers and,your,smartphones connect to the internet and,your tablets all connect through the,router,and the rider pulls connectivity from,the load balancer and the load balancer,pulls connectivity from,your various ones that's how this all,works,and i even have just to show you how far,you can take this um i have another,access point off the router so to extend,the network it's one of these uh,you know tp-link things obviously if you,can do,uh actual aps wired aps that's,preferable if you're a renter then,you can do something like set up a mesh,network or use,ap throughout the house and,you can keep going at infinity basically,you're just bringing your playing with,networking you're you're taking it,everything to the router and from the,router you can either connect directly,to the writer or you can put,an ap,etc etc and carry your network out,that's it um,and it works really well i used to have,daily internet outage um,there was like daily downtime from the,isp the other isp was also sucky so i,was like well if one is bad and two is,bad and one and two my only options what,can i do,[5g home internet speed],and um i couldn't think of a solution,and then i went on this rabbit hole and,honestly glad that i did because the,internet now basically never goes out um,i don't watch what's going on in the,network because i don't really care if,it's coming from isp1 or isp2 i just go,into the spot check thing periodically,to make sure it's working,and that's it so i think this is i mean,in terms of the cost of this setup,we're talking total costs one time uh,capex let's look at capex capital,expenditure about 100 bucks for a,4g router 100,give or take,um your load balancer might be another,100,this is all cheap you could of course,spend more but let's just look at it on,the minimal end of things so by 200,worth of hardware there and then opex,your operational or ongoing expenditure,you're talking about probably,i'm paying like 15 bucks a month for a,4g data sim to just just for backup,that's all it does literally it sits in,the router and is waiting for the main,network to go down so that it can back,up the primary connectivity so a capex,of 200 and opex of about 15 per month,recurring so not expensive and i think,that if you are running a home-based,business which is what i'm doing which,is what my wife is uh currently doing,for the most part uh,you know and you,internet connectivity is your,it's everything if you don't have that,you can't work you can't you can't do,zoom meetings you can't collaborate with,people i think it's really uh it's kind,of a no-brainer in an ideal world,um,you would need to do this we just would,have great internet connectivity from,isps and maybe they'd be,um they'd already be sort of you know,have this uh,failover built in and they'd never go,down but until we get to that point this,is one way to work around that final,thing,to say is,if your internet goes down,it's one thing what if your power goes,down so,power backup is another thing you can do,if you want to really take this to the,ninth degree so,typically routers are low draw devices,[5g home internet speed],can't say the same thing for computers,but if you want to keep your internet,going in the event of a,long power outage whatever,so a ups is the very obvious answer a,uninterruptible power supply now,routers you can measure them by buying a,kilowatt and you can see firsthand that,they draw almost nothing um so that's,the first thing is you can probably run,all your networking,hardware off one ups now maybe that's a,bad idea if it is you can let me know in,the comments um i don't think it's a bad,idea that's i think if they're all,co-located,in one physical box just go ahead and do,it,but you could also do one ups for each,each,writer and that would mean,power drops well you're going to have,now,you're going to have backup internet,and the backup system is going to run as,long as all,two modems and one load balancer can,keep powered uh and i forgot the wi-fi,writer so in total for this setup i'm,describing i'm actually using four,pieces of hardware there's the isp,router there is the,load balancer,there is the cellular router and finally,there's the router and if there's the,actual wi-fi rider and finally there's,the ap if you want to add that so really,five so kind of a lot of gear but you,know it does the trick so um i think,that's really all there is to say about,this um,if you're really concerned with getting,internet that doesn't go down you could,[5g home internet speed],of course take this further you could,you could have four internet,connectivities coming into a uh you know,a load balancer with four ones,and um,then you'd have no you know but i think,i think the diminishing returns is,really going to set in after two because,the chances of your,wire network and your mobile uh provider,your mvno going down at the exact same,time already looking at a very very,small percentage over just having a,single connection and i think adding,three or four connections are going to,be adding more subscriptions more,expense i don't think for most home,users it would be hey there do-it-yourself technicians,today i want to talk about,how your home and small business connect,to the internet,let's get all those cables sorted,[Music],we had a look last week at how the,internet works on a global scale,so today we're going to bring it back,local and see how it works,and connect in your home or small,business,[5g home internet speed vs cable],first let's clarify this small business,thing everybody has a different,definition of what a small business is,for me it's any business with less than,about 25 people,sharing an office or in this case an,internet connection,and every one of those that i've ever,dealt with uses the same internet,connection,as the average home they may pay for a,faster tier of access,and have a larger download allocation,but the technology that connects them to,the internet is exactly the same,so how does everybody get connected well,there's actually a bunch of different,ways to be connected,here in australia the government is,rolling out the nbn,or the national broadband network i'm,not going to get into the politics of,[5g home internet speed vs cable],that that's for somebody else to do,but i will say the technology is rolling,out and it is i believe,almost done but even here there's about,five different ways that you can be,connected,the best and fastest connection type is,fibreoptic,the little glass fibre optic cable,sneaks all the way into your home,and connects directly to your network,here in australia on the nbn that's,known as,fibre to the premises or fttp and looks,like this,the optical cable comes into the box on,the outside of the house,which is then pumped into another box on,the inside of the house and connect it,to your router,in some countries fiber connection speed,can be gigabit connections,and even larger so this is definitely,the way to go if you can get that sort,of connection,fiber to the building or fiber to the,node,is very much like the old adsl,connections we used to have,and are still prevalent in many places,around the world,the internet connection device is,connected via the copper wires,in your house to a dslam somewhere in,your neighborhood,[5g home internet speed vs cable],or out on your street these connections,vary greatly in speed,and are probably amongst the most common,worldwide cable internet or hfc,is probably the next most common,connection globally and certainly very,common in the usa,the internet and often a pay tv service,come in,on a coaxial cable that is then,connected to your router,and your pay tv system these cables then,join with all of your neighborhood,cables to go back to your provider,fiber to the curb or fttc is a fairly,new method of connecting,the nbn in australia the fiber,connection runs,to a small connection box out in the,street that services,usually up to four homes so you're,getting the connection pretty much to,your door,but with that last bit using a vdsl,connection,similar to the fiber to the node this,connection is capable of over 100,megabits per second,and is only shared with those other,three neighbors,this is what we have here for our home,and family and happily supports,six people including two teenagers a,fixed wireless connection,uses the same wi-fi that we're familiar,with in laptops,but using a very different antenna and,[5g home internet speed vs cable],broadcast system,is able to travel many many kilometers,in australia this is being used for,rural communities that can't access the,cabled network,the connection is similar but with a,small antenna,mounted outside the house and then,cabled back into the internet connection,device,and from there to your router in other,places where cabling is a problem,your router can be set to connect to the,local 3 or hopefully 4 or even soon 5g,network this means your router can be,placed wherever it is in your house as,long as it's close to a powerpoint,that gives the best reception and,effectively it's just like a giant,mobile phone,connecting you to the internet in many,ways it works like the,internet access device that were used in,victorian schools for remote learning,linked above these are great if you,don't want a cable especially if you're,renting or something like that,but the connection can be a bit hit or,miss my optus router actually has a,backup,4g connection so that if my internet,goes down it can flick over to that,and still keep me connected which i,think is a really cool inclusion,the final type of connection is a,satellite this uses a dish mounted,usually on the roof of your house to,connect to a low orbit satellite,which then beams your data back down to,[5g home internet speed vs cable],other receiving stations,it's generally not the fastest,connection but the best you can get,in remote areas of the country where,none of the other options exist,so with all of those different options,it's a little bit difficult to give you,a guide on how to plug everything in,in australia they've tried to,standardize around the internet,connection device,which plugs into power and then plugs,into whichever device has brought your,network connection in,and that should all be done for you from,there you just need to plug your,router into the internet connection,device and into power,and everything should be connected and,hopefully you'll get some sort of blinky,light to tell you you've got an internet,connection,from there you can plug the network,cables into your router for anything,that needs,a wired connection and connect to the,wireless using the details supplied,either on a sticker on the modem,or a card that came with the,installation kit,internet providers at least in australia,have generally made this really really,simple and have step-by-step manuals,a little bit like a lego manual that,anybody can follow,believe in yourself you can do it just,follow the steps one by one,get it all plugged in turned on and give,it a go,if you run into trouble give your,internet provider a call and they will,[5g home internet speed vs cable],step you through the process,don't be afraid of it question of the,day,what sort of internet connection do
